HIMEJI LEATHER
Located in the southwestern part of Hyogo Prefecture, Tatsuno City flourished as one of Japan's leading leather-producing regions, largely because of its abundant rivers.
Today, it's renowned for having the highest leather product production in Japan. The art of leather crafting in this area dates back to the Kamakura period, and its exceptional techniques have been passed down through generations. With over 200 factories, ranging from large facilities to small workshops, it's a hub of innovation in leather goods. Numerous tanners from this region have earned accolades in leather contests both domestically and internationally, making it a well-respected area among leather enthusiasts.
