Red Wing - 8180 Moc Toe Green Kangatan

Almost exactly 12 years ago, the 8180 Moc Toe in Green Kangatan leather, which was one of Red Wing Heritage’s first true limited releases, was launched in Europe. No model before had ever sold out faster than this very 8180 Moc Toe...

Historically, the 8180 is based on the 888 Super Setter, developed in the 1960s and produced by the Red Wing Shoe Company exclusively for “Sears,” the largest U.S. department store chain at the time.

As the name “Green Kangatan” suggests, it was indeed made from green kangaroo leather. Another distinctive feature of the original 888 Super Setter was that the famous baseball player Ted Williams, who played for the Boston Red Sox, endorsed this special outdoor shoe.

This helped boost sales and raise the profile of both the shoe and the Red Wing Shoe Company, leading to the 8180 in the Moc Toe design being released in 2014 as an exclusive limited edition in homage to the 888.

The current 8180 Moc Toe is a 1:1 reissue of this style and, unlike the original from over 60 years ago, is not made of kangaroo leather but of texan bull leather as per usual with Red Wings. Aside from that, the construction is based on our classic Moc Toe model with a white Traction Tred sole. The rich green hue of the Green Kangatan leather, however, is a real eye-catcher, and this model is a must-have for any Red Wing collection.
