Clocking in at 19oz., the construction of the fabric itself is worth understanding. The warp uses a No. 5 uneven slub yarn spun from coarse, hard raw cotton using a high-twist spinning method that deliberately maximises the rough, grainy surface texture. The slub character in a yarn this thick is difficult to produce with the kind of naturalness you find in finer counts, and Samurai have achieved it here in a way that gives the fabric an organic irregularity rather than a forced effect.
The weft uses a thick No. 4 count yarn, which softens the inner face of the fabric against the skin while the outer surface remains deliberately coarse and heavy.
